There are many different reasons why obesity occurs. The 3 reasons I will focus on are the role of increase media advertising unhealthy food. The decrease of physical activity, and the lack of access to healthy foods in the community. Over the last 500 years the influence of mass media on advertising unhealthy food has increased exponentially with advance technology(dartmouth.edu/food/product). For example it all started with books, and, magazines, photograph, sound recording, radio, television, internet, social media, and much more. Its really hard to not get persuaded by all these ads about junk food when media is everywhere we go. After seeing thousands of persuasive advertising messages, we make buying decisions based on what we see in television. Fast food industries spend 4.2 billion dollars on advertising across media platforms. (American Academy of Pediatrics). this is important because as more they spend in advertising unhealthy food more people get persuaded to consume their product. Children view an estimated 11 food advertisements for every hour of tv they watch, the majority of which promote junk food products that are high in sodium, sugar or fat, and lacking nutritional value (American Academy of Pediatrics). This shows that kids are more targeted because they are more vulnerable and defenseless they dont know whats good or bad for their health and if kids see more unhealthy ads there is more possibility they are going to beg their parents for it.
Physical inactivity is a big concern in how it increases obesity as well, if you're not very active you don't burn as many calories every day with sedentary lifestyles you can easily take more calories every day than you burn. As labor saving technology advances increased its hard to be physically active people worldwide are doing less of it do to the fact that now we have cars, computers, shopping escalators, elevators, power tools(Christopher Wanjek february 26, 2014). As illustrated, technology has been advancing and not that its bad but its keeping us from being physically active it’s making us lazy and that resolves into obesity. Studies on inactivity published in the journal mayo clinic proceedings show that obese people participate in less than one minute of strong activity per day average typical american sleeps and sits nearly the entire day(Christopher Wanjek february 2014). This explains why obese people keep getting bigger and bigger keeping active can help people stay at a healthy weight and it helps lower the risk of having numeral illnesses that obesity contributes.

Food insecurity and low-income neighborhoods not always have full service grocery stores or farmers market some don’t have reliable transportation to go to where you can buy variety of fruits, vegetables,whole grain, and low fat dairy products they mostly go to small neighborhood shopping stores because of convenience healthy food is often more expensive than junk food it’s usually inexpensive and available in low income communities(Frac.orginitiaives/hunger-and-obesity). From this we can see that just because we don’t live in a rich community we don’t get the same access to healthy food it is important that we all get the same amount and quality because people have no choice but to eat sugars and saturated fats that cause people to get obese and harm their health.
